The Weardale Wonderbus

Join Northern Heartlands and Weardale Together onboard the Weardale Wonders ‘Wonderbus’, for a journey of conversation, celebration and discovery of the rich cultural life that connects communities up and down Weardale.
Over the past year, artist Adrian Riley has worked with communities and partners across Weardale through the PLACE Lab Weardale: Weardale Wonders project. The project has used arts and creativity to celebrate the area, uncover shared priorities, and shine a light on the often unseen cultural connections across Weardale. This creative engagement has informed the development of five new public artworks, across Weardale’s towns and villages.
Starting at Weardale Together’s Root and Branch Community Café, we'll travel together on the Wonderbus to visit the artworks in Wolsingham, Stanhope, St Johns Chapel, Ireshopeburn and Cowshill. Along the way, Adrian and partners will share the stories and inspirations behind the designs, celebrate Weardale's cultural offer, and explore opportunities for future collaboration. We’ll finish the journey back at the Root and Branch Café at around 15:00 for reflection and conversation.
If you’d like to book lunch and sample the delights of the Root and Branch Community Café prior to boarding, please arrive no later than 12noon and select the ticket to include lunch when booking (and then you’ll pay for this separately at the café on the day).
